Hays Window: Lower HAlf

The upper and lower halves of this window depict a vision witnessed by the Apostle John who wrote:

"I saw the new Heaven and new Earth... I saw the Holy city of Jerusalem newly created, coming down out of heaven from God."

-Revelation 21:1-2

In the lower section, Angels with uplifted faces are pictured. One praises God with a stringed instrument called a lyre; another carries a hanging bowl of incense. There is a dove representing the Holy Spirit along the upper edge of the scene.

According to the Book of Revelation, a loud voice like thunder coming from the throne of God declared:

"Behold! God has moved into the neighborhood, making his home with men and women. They are his people and he is their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

-Revelation 21:1-4

The Charles Hays Window was a gift of Mrs. George W. Dilworth in memory of her parents, Charles Hays (1822-1902) and Isabella Steele McLaughlin Hays (1829-1898).
